New collaboration on inflow calculations

Water – when and how much does it arrive, and when is it worthwhile to use it? Clemens Kraft will now collaborate with Expert Analytics to develop better inflow calculations.

The collaboration with Expert Analytics covers many interesting areas of learning. In the project, we will study topics such as precipitation forecasts, inflow forecasts, data processing, machine learning, reservoir management and production planning. Clemens Kraft’s primary objective is to learn.

Nørlandselva power plant has a small reservoir for which we are now developing better inflow calculations.

Nørlandselva in Western Norway will be studied in particular. This is because the power plant has a small reservoir that we want to utilize optimally, without too much imbalance. At the same time, our operational experience is that precipitation and inflow rarely turn out as forecast and expected.

Gry Merete Tveten, who is responsible for innovation and the power industry at Expert Analytics, says the project provides valuable insight into the challenges facing the small-scale hydropower industry. Hopefully, this will open the door to more projects for similar customers.

Expert Analytics is a private research and development consultancy originating in Oslo. Today, it also has offices in Munich and Rio de Janeiro. The company specializes in data science, AI, mathematical modeling and advanced software development, and 75% of the team holds a PhD. This provides a strong foundation for new learning for Clemens Kraft.
