Clemens Kraft plans to apply for a licence to develop hydropower in the Garbergelva River in Selbu. As with most power development plans in Norway, this one also evokes emotions and engagement both for and against. On an early Thursday in September, Clemens Kraft therefore opened the municipal council chamber at Selbu Town Hall for an information evening. To give as many people as possible the opportunity to drop by, the doors were open from 16:00 to 20:00, and the audience was evenly distributed throughout the evening. Thus, even with many visitors in total, everyone had the opportunity to speak with one of Clemens Kraft's representatives. In addition, nine large posters with information and illustrations were displayed throughout the municipal council chamber. They enabled visitors to find a great deal of information on their own and created an opportunity to point out and explain various measures associated with future development.

Clemens Kraft's development director, Mattias Kullberg, answers questions and explains everything the audience is wondering about.

Trøndelag is in a situation where much more renewable energy must be produced in order to approach the climate targets for the region and the country. However, the measures needed to achieve the climate targets quickly come into conflict with local wishes to preserve untouched nature. This consideration plays a major role when Clemens Kraft designs the development of the Garbergelva River, and the goal is for it to be carried out as carefully as possible and with as little impact as possible on the ecological conditions associated with the river.

Knut Olav Tveit, who is the managing director of the Norwegian Small Hydropower Association, was also present at the information evening.

As part of the preparatory work for Clemens Kraft's application, thorough nature surveys have been carried out, with contributions from two of the country's leading experts in the field. When the application is processed by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE), they will determine what further surveys and measures must be carried out in order to implement the project as carefully as possible. Whether NVE grants a licence for power production in the Garbergelva River depends, among other things, on whether the possibilities for mitigation measures are sufficient.

As part of the process leading up to NVE's decision, they will also hold a public meeting in Selbu. In addition, it is possible to submit comments to NVE during the process.
